Benvenuto Brunello 2013 is coming!!!!
Every February the new vintages of Brunello are released in Montalcino and to say it is a big deal is an understatement! This year the 2008 Brunello and the 2007 Riserva Brunello are finally making their debut. I hear through the grapevine that the 2008(s) are decent but the 2007 Riserva(s) are exceptional. I look forward to tasting ALL of them myself! Yes, I am going! By bus, from Cortona with a group of most probably other rowdy wine lovers. Could the last wine tasting dinner of the season have been any more fabulous? I don’t think so. Hosted by Molesini Wine Shop and Del Brenna Jewelry, the free wine tasting in the piazza was already teetering on over the top. As we arrived late to the party as usual, they were lighting a couple of lanterns at the tasting, creating quite the spectacle, but in a-very-amazing-ambiance-at-dusk kind of way! The winery featured for this last great tasting is an amazing one from Tuscany, the Maremma, Biserno. I had the opportunity to try the Il Pino...

Held under the regal arches of the Teatro of Cortona, the Strada dei Vini Cortona, end of summer wine event was a small but very welcoming and a nice representation of some of the great local Cortona wines. With two sommeliers actively pouring wines and available to answer any general wine questions, it was a nice way to taste a decently sized pour of the available 25 or so wines. As opposed to the U.S. where you often meet winemakers or a winery rep serving their wine, in Italy at many of the tasting events you are served by a sommelier. If...
